my friend has a late 1990's jeep Cherokee with the straight 6, 4.0L engine with the auto tranny. He think that is is fun to drive the car in L which is 1st and 2nd gear. He will drive like this all the time even on the highway (the car will get up to 80 ish before the rev limiter cuts out because the engine is turning at 5500 rpm and the redline is 5000 rpm) he will drive for miles while the engine is turning 5000+ rpm. He also thinks its funny to rock the car by altering the throttle from 0-100% every second in first gear at 4000 rpm. He will do this about 20 times before he stops, the result is a violent shaking and rocking of the car. The final thing he does is when he first starts his car in the morning he will floor it for about 1 min in park because he claims it makes the heater work faster. Is my friend just wasting a lot of gas or is he damaging his car? If he is damaging it what is he specifically damaging and what are the symptoms of said component failure?
