Is this author a progressive or populist..neither..or both?

For ap us..i have to read the age of reform by richard hofstadter..but i don't know if he's a populist and progressive,etc..the question for my assignment was...:
"Do you think the author would identify himself as a Populist, a Progressive, both, or neither?"
