Verizon Wireless is owned by Verizon Communications (Market Cap $83.98 BILLION) and Vodafone (Market Cap $101.56 BILLION). They have over 80 MILLION customers. They also have the Lowest Churn-Rate, with the Highest ARPU. Not to mention Verizon Wireless has been adding over a Million customers every financial quarter for years now and they are worried about money? I think when a company like Verizon Wireless gets to the Greed-Saturation-Point, they are willing to do pretty much anything to bleed just a little bit more money from their customers; customers who are already stretched to their financial limits. Verizon's Board Members are just so out of touch with reality, that they can only see good coming from changing things like this. Where would it all stop? It doesn't take much to go from being the Top-Performer, to being a D-List company. So if Verizon keeps changing what made customers switch to them in the first place, there won't be a Verizon Wireless in 5 years. They will default into a dead company that is either sold-off for parts, or sold for next-to-nothing to some foreign company. Because once Verizon loses their Market Image of being Customer Friendly, they won't be able to get that back.

If Verizon was in trouble, then I can see changing things up, but their NOT. They just love Greed and want more cash for their investors.

I don't think, even with all of these drastic changes, customers will go anywhere. Some may, and I myself have considered (but only Verizon works where I live now). Even if many customers were to leave, Verizon is part of the biggest joint company in the world. Vodafone, the world's 7th largest carrier, and Verizon Wireless the largest U.S. carrier, combined with Verizon Communications the largest landline carrier, there is no competing here. They'll get bailed out no matter how poor of choices they make.

People need to realize that Verizon is still offering competitive products and services. AT&T has strict limits when upgrading. They give you a selection of phones where you're given a $30 or $75 gift card (depending on the price plan) that you can use to buy a phone. They only say you can use it towards the purchase of a phone, that they give you a list of.

Also, the Friends and Family has disappointed customers, I know. But you gotta realize it is a small step in a good direction. Verizon has NEVER offered anything like this and many never believed they'd consider it. Do you think that there are customers that are on a $59.99 plan with 900 minutes and they exceed their minutes monthly...well yea...I guarantee it happens...this plan can save those customers now. Yes, it isn't the best...but you need to look for the brightest things in something.

This might be a stupid question as I am a little confused. I am on the Basic Nationwide Family Plan 1400 minutes. My next new every 2 is in in 2010. Do I still get my 100 credit and will I still get 100 after that for future upgrades?

I'm not sure what it was previously or anything (as everything is starting to just become confusing), but I can tell you what it is as of now.

The discount is $30.00 for customers on a calling plan of up to 79.98 per month (this is JUST VOICE and doesn't include when you add texting, etc...) for individual lines. And it is $50 for customers on a calling plan greater than or equal to $79.99 per month.

I'm still not sure of what the values are for family plans. It is still in the same denominations except a higher total value calling plan is required (obviously, since you have 2 or more lines)...ask Verizon about this...

Something that confuses me now is that the highest single voice plan technically should be $69.99. This is because of the lowering of the unlimited plan pricing. So really the only option is a $30 discount...unless they consider the TALK AND TEXT a plan in itself, which would then make the minimum for $50 $89.99 (Unlim Talk and Text).

I'll email Verizon Wireless and post the response here.

Okay, I received a response from Verizon Wireless today. I've posted the EXACT message in the quotes below:

Just a little background on what I asked them. I asked them to explain the entire new every two service. I wanted to know if it has changed since the last changes were made a year ago. I wanted to know if people who had a higher class device (i.e. Moto DROID or comparable) would be eligible for a higher discount...as this only seemed logical since You technically have to add a $30 data plan which would put customers over the $79.99 cap. But, the discount is the same no matter which device you have and the data plan isn't a part of the required price plan. I have sent information requesting more info on the discounts for unlimited plan users and family plan users.
