Hey Guys,

Just need some help...... i have the following symptoms for the last 3 months and cant seem to find an answer

Burning Throat (almost constantly)
Cough (randomly)
Chest pressure (Constant)
taste of food in my mouth but no acid taste
feels like my esophagus is having spasm (randomly)

The chest pressure was the most worrying symptom after checking the heart and lungs (all fine) i am at a lost at what it could be!!!

I have tried Nexium (for about 2 weeks) and Somac (for 8 days) and i have seen no change.

Went to the doctor and he said that not all the symptoms were typical of acid reflux but suggested a endoscopy, which will cost quite a bit...... do my symptoms sound like reflux? should i get the endoscopy or will it be a waste of money?

I don't have any nausea, vomiting or stomach pain

Any advice would be great!!

Thanks

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the advice.......... i have tried the Apple cider vinegar and no relief unfortunately (and i was so hopeful).

Thanks guys about the advice for the endoscopy.........i was reluncant to have it done because i wasnt sure if those symptoms were GERD or Acid relfux related..........i have the endoscopy booked on the 29th of April........ I am very discouraged at the moment :( ......... i am very stressed that its something more serious!!! Im sure the stress isnt helping my situation either!!!

Im still taking the PPIs advised by the doctor......... havent seen any improvement.

He said to take one at night........ but i have upped it too two (still havent seen a difference) Any suggests about the best time to take them??

I am so sorry you feel so bad, I know exactly how you feel! Those are all symptoms of GERD!! To make a long painful story short, I have GERD and Acid Reflux. I was sick for months, almost a year. The perscription meRAB made all my symptoms worse after a period of a few weeks, or gave me new symptoms to deal with. I also had the tightness in the chest, lump in thoart, horrible sinuses, constant cough, bloating, swelling/water retention ect. My Aunt had told me years ago how they treated all there stomach problems with Apple Cider Vineagar and a little baking soda! I was so desperate I researched this stuff on the internet, and 100's of storys of this cureing there GERD/Acid Reflux among other things! I Followed receipe 2 tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar, 1/4 teaspoon baking soda in 8 oz of water and Honey to help with the taste, 3 to 4 times a day before you eat! The very first time I tryed it all my horrible symptoms went away, and by the next day I was completely well!!! I do this 4 times a day, and I am cured it is a mircle! Please research it, you will be amazed by all the stories! I am so grateful, I could not afford all the testing either or medications that made it worse! Let me know if you have any questions!

God Bless

Thank you very much for your advice........ i am going out to buy some Apple cider vinegar now!! i will give it a try for a few days and let you know the results!!

I am hoping this works!!! Thanks again

Endoscopy is never a waste of money (except, of course, if you can't afford it or have to stop paying for some vital bill to pay for the procedure). It is always a good idea to get a baseline of the disease at the onset of treatment because severity of symptoms do not always correlate with what's going on in your GI tract.

While an endoscopy does not remove symptoms (and sometimes even leaves you with more questions than it answers), it is worth the time and money in order to rule out serious conditions, such as stomach cancer or Barrett's esophagus (a precancerous condition). They will take tiny biopsies or tissue samples and investigate these conditions. If all that is Ok and hopefully it will be, then you have to deal with symptom management and lifestyle changes.

The difficult to accept part is that many, if not most of us here, did absolutely nothing to bring about these problems. I am not overweight, do not smoke and do not and did not take medications on a regular basis prior to the GERD diagnosis. I used to drink coffee every morning on an empty stomach like many people. That was my only sin, and I also used to drink one margarita or glass of wine a week with dinner. Yet, I began to experience regular heartburn at fifty three. I am now fifty five.

I am fortunate to not have anything more serious, but I, like many other people, always thought that if I took good care of myself, I could prevent most illnesses or health problems. False sense of security, I suppose.

I wish you well. Definitely get that endoscopy done. You'll be glad you did, and then you'll have the peace of mind and patience to slowly tackle reducing your symptoms. There is lots and lots of useful information in these forums. I found them to be a gold mine and have learned lots since. Take the time to read others' stories and solutions if you can.

i have those symptoms except for a cough and they're from acid reflux.

i'd go for an endoscopy. don't be discouraged if it reveals nothing; mine didn't the first time either. the best tests for pinning down what's wrong are the manometry and ph test. the manometry will show how well your esophagus is working and detect any abnormalities. the ph test will confirm acid reflux. good luck!

Hey Guys,

Had the endoscopy today and all that worry for nothing!! went in gave me some drugs i feel asleep woke up 15 mins later dont remeraber a thing!! I am seeing the doctor in a week for the results of biopsy taken!!

Lets hope all goes well!!! i will let you know

I had an upper endoscopy yesterday. I was so nervous but like you, I don't remeraber a thing about the procedure. Apparently there was irritation in my esophagus which they took a biopsy of. The paranoid side of me thinks I heard one of the nurses say something about Barrett's esophagus to one of the other nurses. However, I was still groggy from the meRAB so it could be all in my head. My follow up appointment is next Wednesday. Hopefully we will both get good news. Best of luck to you!
