Is this a valid reason to argue a red light camera ticket?

I ran a red light by accident, and received a ticket for almost $500...lame huh? It was in Escondido, CA. I went back to the intersection to take photos because the traffic lights are oddly positioned. The intersection has two left turn lanes and two straight through lanes. The road curves just before the traffic lights come into view, so there are two lights to the left of the turn lane signal as well as the two over the straight through lanes. When I pulled up to the intersection, I needed to take a left turn, so I looked to my left, and saw the two green lights on my far left, then proceeded through the turn. What I didn't see, was the single red arrow over the turn lane. Apparently the green lights on my left were signaling the straight through lanes, even though they were over the turn lanes as well. The additional straight through lights are on the left because the road curves, so drivers can tell if the light is green before they round the curve. Its pretty hard to describe, but here is a crude diagram with the G's meaning the green light and the R meaning the red arrow. If you are serious about helping I can email you a photo of the intersection. I ran the light at night.

You can argue it and probably get out of it. But you need to realize they just want money from you. They don't care about the road or you or anything else they just want money. They will still get some money from you no matter what so I'm sure they will drop it if you argue it.
