So I recently moved and joined a new ice rink. This ice rink uses the ISI system only, and the rink I was at before used the USFSA system. Just before I left, I had passed through all the basic levels (1-8) of USFSA and was working on Free Skate 1/2. Since I moved and joined the new rink however, I have only passed up to Gamma level, as my hockey stops leave something to be desired, as do my mohawks, which simply aren't the best...
Given this set back, would you think that it is a reasonable goal to pass both Gamma and Delta levels by the end of this year? My forward edges, 3-turns, lunges and bunny hops are all good, but I can't quite hold my shoot-the-duck long enough...
I also really want to be able to pass Freestyle 1 the first time around, and the test is in January/February. Do you think it would be possible to pass the Freestyle 1 test by then? I can already do most of the moves from FS 1 well (forward arabesques, pivots, waltz jump, backwards edges), but I am worried about the 1 1/2 minute program that is required... I have never skated a program before!
Also, would passing Freestyle 2 at the same time be too far of a stretch? My rink only has freestyle testing once a year, no exceptions, so I'm not sure if I could get all the 1/2 jumps and spins (I can usually get 3 revolutions, but the test requires at least 6 revolutions) down by then...
I practice for about 3 hours a week now, and I have one 30-minute group lesson and one 30-minute private lesson a week. Right now I can't add any more practice sessions or lessons because of transport and scheduling problems, which will hopefully be resolved by the end of this month.
So, is it reasonable to pass Gamma and Delta by the end of December (or sooner)? And do you think it would be possible to pass Freestyle 1 and 2 by mid-January?
Thanks to everyone who answers!
