Yes for that yr you made a good deal but I dont know exactly why you'd buy a Neon their good cars like any vehicle if kept up so all I'd be wondering is if the common faults etc have been repaired already on that vehicle.
Personally I like those cars their look their ride and I just don't like their size much but again if any car is taken care of driven right it lasts tens times longer and less headaches occur.
Be careful of misdiagnoses especially with that vehicles transmission system get always many opinions and quotes plus ask around do your homework bec it could end up saving you thousands of dollars in the long run.If that transmission hasn't had its fluids and filter changed and it's a used vehicle as you just bought I'd be changing them bec that is vital on those but be sure you dont let ppl talk you into flushing the transmission and always use the proper factory recommend fluids especially the transmission fluid.Be sure to change the oil on it or have it looked at to make sure the oil quality etc is okay too.
I know I'am adding a lot of info but it will end up helping you understand just why I've mentioned or said certain things regarding that vehicle already in this reply.
When you change the transmission fluid be sure that you look into if any recall, service bulltetins or flash updates issues etc exist bec sometimes it even best to get the transmission put into a learning mode via a dealership or a transmission shop after changing the transmission fluid etc on them.
I do believe that If it's only going to be driven on short halls or not too far and daily for school etc and you baby that vehicle I bet it will last you yrs especially if you keep the vehicle up to par etc.Just remember that every car's charging system and engine needs a good 10 to 15 mins wkly of hwy driving, be sure to keep the coolant quality, mixture and level up to par and check your fluids often and watch the different gauges get to know the vehicles normal operating temperatures and gauge reactions etc.By the way I do know personally some ppl that have driven those vehicles many miles but once again tire pressures , type of tires , balancing of the tires , alignments etc are all vital in how it rides or runs or dives.
It's always nice to carry some extra parts etc for the vehicle and the book etc will help especially if you ask around then check your vehicle to see if the most common faults with it have been fixed already and keep a note of the other things so you can get some spare parts just in case or buy yourself a good parts car like yours.
Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way it not be a bad idea to have that vehicle fully checked by a reliable mechanic etc and there is a great book that you might want to buy the book Lemonade its all about vehicles and a wonderful source of information and a great learning tool for any auto buyer or owner or driver even and is a great eye opener too.
