Is this a good excerpt from my novel about WWII?

Izabella leaped to the side of the road when she saw lights just ahead. She couldn't make out if they were from a building or a car from this distance but she lie in wait to see if they got closer. They did. There was a care heading for her hiding spot. She decided to stand up. Although still wearing her disguise, she knew an SS guard wouldn't be just standing still on the side of the road.
She searched her pockets. There was a torch. She pressed the button and shone the bright beam ahead on the road busying herself looking for an imaginary escapee from the camp. This was something an SS officer would be doing. As she pretended to search she thought about the previous few hours.
Why did the SS guard help her? She couldn't comprehend his kindness. She had always thought that all soldiers and officers in the Reich hated Jews. She wondered if there was an agenda behind it. But she couldn't think properly with the headlights boring into her eyes.
The lights didn't move; the car had stopped and the lights were focused on her. A man stepped out of the car and approached Izabella. She was half thinking and raised the handgun in her right hand. "Halt!" she ordered in a low voice. She startled herself how much age sounded like a man.
But she soon realised that it wasn't her who had spoken. The man approaching her was also an SS officer. Maybe she had been caught. No, there would be dogs and more men. But why was this man here?
Izabella stepped forward. The man raised his own hand gun; "Halt!" Izabella didn't budge. A real SS guard wouldn't.
