Is this a good deal for Gears of War 2?

my friend is selling his GOW2 game and i offered 17 bucks for it and he said yes. But when i looked at it, it had hella scratches on it. he said it works fine but i'm not sure if i can trust him. should i go through with the deal or not?
he wont let me try it out
 
I would attempt to play the game on both his and your system. If you think it has too much damage, try haggling the price. The Xbox has a very good disc drive, and can read heavily scratched discs with minimal problems, they also scratch fixer at blockbuster and walmart.
