(I'll start off saying that im 17 years of age (minor), and my sister is 24.)
About a month back, my sister went to a Tigermarket to get some Smirnoff's for herself and her boyfriend. I get there about 10 minutes later in my car, to catch up with my sister, get a snack and follow her to her house, chill with them. My sister gets her Smirnoffs, gets in line, waits 10 minutes, and when its her turn to pay, they tell her that they needed to see MY I.D. My sister asked, "why, hes not buying or drinking any beer, he didnt even touch the box". Then they told my sister, "we saw you talking to him and the cameras saw you talking to him and we'll get in trouble if we sell you the beer." I was there in line with my sister when they told her that so i told them, "fine its okay, i'll leave." I went to my car and then saw my sister leave the store empty handed.........so i figured id find out, went asked the lady and she started tripping talking about they were gonna get a 4000 dollar fine go to jail, making a big scene.

So the question is:
Is there any law saying that my sister couldnt buy beer just because i talked to her?! (I didnt touch the box, give her money, or even talk about the beer......whats the deal?)

Actually i had a similar experience with this, only difference was that my friend was purchasing alcohol for me. It was strange when they asked to see my ID as well, I was impressed how they set higher standards to crack down on this type of stuff.

But apparently some stores do have the right to do this. I don't think its so much a that the law requires the stores for them to do this. I think they choose freely or somewhere in how they sell their alcohol. But yea i most stores that i go to don't do that.

Long story short there was another a store nearby and i still got my beers. Then the next time we went there just waited in the car.
