is this a common practice in bookstores or was this employee being unreasonable?

i was sitting in books a million flipping through a book, waiting on my boyfriend to arrive (we were planning on seeing a movie, the store was next to the theatre), when he came, he sat down next to me. i hadnt seen him in two weeks so i curled up next to him, we began talking about what had been going on while we were apart. after sitting there for a little less than an hour, we had an employee come up, tell us we had been there too long, and asked us to leave. i would understand being asked to move if we were in the way of tons of customers, but we were to the side against one of the shelves, it would make sense if we were in a corner making out, but all i was doing was leaning against him, i've been in that books a million before for about three hours and no one ever commented on the amount of time i spent in there. so why did the employee ask that we leave?
