is it some kind of project or what? when people take pictures of other random people while those are not looking? i was walking on a street yesterday, and i saw some people with cameras, and then i saw this one woman took a picture of me!!! i wanted to say something, cuz i dont want my face to be posted on some website or else, but i just walked away...
it happened to me before. my classmate took people's pictures and when i asked why, he said it was a project for his statistics class..

It's called "Street Photography" and it means taking, natural, candid pictures of people on public streets.

It's a completely legal and accepted genre of photography. If you are in a public place, like a public street, park, etc, then legally someone CAN take your picture without your permission. That's because the law says you do not have a "reasonable expectation of privacy" while you're in public.

The only exception is that if they use the picture for commercial purposes (sell the picture) then they have to get your written permission. There are some other limits too...if you've secluded yourself like sitting in a quiet corner of a park, behind trees, or if it's otherwise obvious that you would have an expectation of privacy...THEN they can't take your picture without your permission.

But if you're just walking down a public street, you're fair game.

Look up "Street Photography" on Google.

EDIT:

Taz1000...is there any reason why you copied and pasted my answer word-for-word? *Reported*

i had this assignment for a photography class, the assignment was called "candid people", where we would try to take interesting pictures of people who didnt know they were being photographed.
or it could be called "street photography", like the other people said
