MY 4 yr old has been not only pushing my buttons lately, she has found a few I did not even know I had.

I actually thought if only there was a kiddie boot camp....... I am just kidding. truly.

My question is how many of you are having a hard time with a 4yr old as well. And what works for you? Especially when they pull a full-on non-stop tantrum? Whether at home or in public. ?

I actually had to remove my child from the grocery store today. Left my Husband standing in the checkout lane. He had the car keys though so we had to wait outside. While she continued to have a fit. (this is when my mind thought of boot camp, lol)

What is a mom to do????

My 4 year old has the Don't you phase

Don't you shush me.
Don't you say stop to me.
Don't you say NO to me.
Don't you talk to me.
Im so ready to ducktape his mouth tie him up and put him in the corner for a few hours (joke) lol

When my son was younger, I did not know why he misbehaved as he did. I was pretty good at using discipline and using positive reinforcement. (Had to remove him from a store, too). Finally, I found out he had ADHD, but really he also had food sensitivites. Peanut products were a real problem in regards to the temper outbursts, and orange juice was problematic, too. Try looking up ADHD and food senstivities. You can do an elimination diet to see what foods might be causing problems - but be sure to do it correctly so you get a good idea if this is contributing to the problems. I was surprised to see the difference when I eliminated the culprit items from the diet. This does not necessarily mean she is overactive, but the foods can cause problems. Look up books by Dr. Doris Rapp. You can get them through used booksites, quite cheaply. Very helpful.

I have a 3 almost 4 year old. When possible, ignoring him seems to work pretty well for me. But there are times, like in the grocery store where it's just me, and it's the only chance I have to do the shopping for that week, when he starts pitching a fit to leave. If I ignore him, it bothers the other customers. If I leave, he gets what he wants and thinks crying is the way to get things. I've learned yelling doesn't help, if you're trying to calm someone down, you have to be calm. I usually take something away from him like a toy until he can act better. It seems to be working.
We don't go anywhere if he hasn't had a nap already. And when we go, I carry the huge mom purse with a book and some cherrios for him to keep ocupied.
