Is there precedent for a political party refusing to nominate its own

incumbent President for a 2nd term?
And am I the only Democrat thinking that this might be appropriate action to an increasingly Bush-esque Obama administration?

On top of refusing to prosecute the Geneva violations of the previous administration as war crimes, continuing many of those same violations including torture and wiretapping, capitulating to BP following their oil spill, failing to follow through on gay rights, he is now continuing the Bush tax cuts (while having the gall to promise us AGAIN that he will repeal them, while IN THE PROCESS of voiding his previous promise to let them expire) and gutting the inheritance tax to a new low.

This administration has lost this longtime supporter's support, and from many of the reports and opinions I read, I'm far from the only one. Would there be precedent for the Democratic Party running a candidate other than Obama in 2012? Do any other people think this would be appropriate?
