Abiotic components are non-living chemical and physical factors in the environment. The main thing that I can think of is temperature in the water. The temperature in streams can influence the structure of fish communities. For example, in the eastern US woolly adelgids (an insect) have been killing off new growth on hemlocks (especially the eastern hemlocks). Eastern Hemlocks are typically found in areas with water, like streams and rivers and provide a source of shade for the rivers and streams. Anyway, if new growth is killed, eventually the hemlocks will die. If the hemlocks die, then the temperature in the streams and rivers will increase. This can be a huge problem for fish that like or prefer the shaded parts of the stream, like trout. This can also be an economic problem because a lot of people in that fish in this part of the country are fishing for trout...even if they're not native to the US.
I don't know if there is a single abiotic factor though.
