Is there anyway to use my 360 or PS3 controller on my PC?

I know there's a way to use the 360 controller, which is the one I prefer to use, but I can't get it to work or find anything on how to do it. I know IGN had an article on this fairly recently, but I can't find it in their archives either. Anyone know how to get this to work? Thanks.

I use my PC to charge my PS3 controller and whenever I plug it in it get recognized and auto installed

Connect your ps3 controller to your PC using the supplied USB cable, then windows will detect it as a Human Interface device.

i used the 360 wired controller to play FF7 for PC.
