Is there anyway I can open the trunk to my dodge neon?

I have had my car (98 neon) for about 3 or 4 years now and when I first got it, I couldn't use the drivers side lever to open the trunk since it just doesn't work. So I've always used my key to open it. After a year or two, it got very picky about which side of the key I had up, but it still opened. About a month or two ago, I had my car broken into and they damaged my driver's door lock and they went into my trunk through my backseat.

Since then I can't open my trunk at all. The lever doesn't work and neither does my key. The thing is I don't know if its related to the break in or if the key cylinder finally went since the guys who broke into my car weren't very good with locks. How and what can I do to fix my trunk?
 
With my old dodge neon, we just gave the dang trunk a good kick and it popped right open.
Those things are pieces of junk. Has the paint started to chip off like a hobo with dandruff? Cause it will.
