Last year, some die-hard Jeff Buckley fans had a go, and succeeded in getting his version of "Hallelujah" to No. 2. However, that was more about fighting for the principle of keeping great, classic songs safe from the one-hit wonder that is the Xmas No. 1.
Personally, I think that if the winner of X Factor didn't get the number 1 spot, some other flash in the pan would still get it anyway, as that's what the Xmas top spot has become in the last few years (Mr Blobby and Cliff Richard, anyone?).
Also, any decent musician with half and ounce of credibilty and common sense wouldn't DREAM of releasing something over Xmas, simply because of the company they'd be keeping.
