My Navy recruiter told me I may have to wait anywhere from 6-9 months to start boot camp. In a few days, I'm taking the Defense Language Aptitude battery. He also told me the Navy is high need for CTI, the job that I want. Why must I wait 6-9 months before I start basic training then? and is there anyway to speed up my entry into basic training?

Keep studying the language you want to to speak.

Buff up a bit.

It's all good.

The best way to go about doing that would be to ask the Navy liaison when you finally go to MEPS for the enlistment process. Just tell them you would like to leave sooner than you were told. Good luck!

because when you ship to Boot is contingent upon when a seat in A school is available. but yes the average right now is 6-9 months for all ratings. to ship sooner you have to choose one of two things:

drop your current rating and pick up another one shipping sooner, or put in a DAR(DEPper Action Request) that basically says: hey, if anybody drops out of the rating I want, I'll take his spot.. keeping in mind that you can literally get an hours notice as these open slots tend to go FAST.

Just go in and tell them you want to leave early. Take some extra training or just do some grunt work. Prove yourself worthy of that position. But remember that recruiters tell you what they need, not what you need. Good luck and have fun.

Usually Basic and AIT are coordinated so that upon the completion of basic the school you will be attending is not that far away in days or weeks.
