I'm a 5'7", 165 lb male. I ski on the weekends, play hockey, and used to run half-marathons, but have cooled off a bit.
The last several trips to the doctor, my blood pressure has been elevated - yesterday 146/100, 1 week ago it was 130/90 at the beginning of the appt., but was 128/80 at the end. Last month it was 140/80, and last December 130/90. My triglycerides are high, too.
- No-one in my family has HBP or high triglycerides, no heart attacks in the family. In fact my mother and grandmother both have hypo-tension.
- I lead an active, moderately stressful life - running, skiing, playing hockey, not to mention walking across campus all day to class rooms.
- I drink moderately, and stay away from most drugs unless they're prescribed.
- In undergrad I was briefly a nutrition minor and eat very healthy - little processed food, and really a fiber-based diet.
- My BMI is 26, but my body fat is low and I have a relatively muscular build for my smallish frame.
- My kidney scan was healthy, my EKG, chest X-ray, echo cardiogram, and urinalysis were all normal.
This all came on kind of suddenly in the last year, as all previous physicals I've been perfectly healthy. I was wondering if anyone around here has had HPB and reversed it and how. My cardiologist says its hormones and put me on lisinopril as a result. I'd like to get it in the 110/75 range without drugs, though. I'd also like to know how to lower my cholesterol.
Edit - I'm only 24 years old.
