Is there any way I can mod the engine in my lincoln continental to get better gas...

...mileage? I have a 1996 lincoln continental that gets less about 16 miles to the gallon in the city (25 on the highway). Is there a problem with it, should it get more mileage then that? If so, how can I fix it, and if not, is there a mod I can do to get make it more efficient? Thanks
