Is there any particular reason why God planted the 'Tree of Knowledge of Good

and Evil' in the Garden of Eden? Also considering that Adam and Eve had no idea what was right or wrong before they ate from it, how could they ever determine the nature of what they were doing?

Isn't God supposed to be fair, because that doesn't sound fair to me. Especially when you consider that his punishment of the serpent was for it to spend eternity crawling on it's belly. Because it wasn't like it was doing that already, after all :S

Just to clarify, I don't belong to any organised religion nor am I an atheist. I can't say i'm not religious because I think everyone is a little bit religious, at least in the loosest sense of the word, but if I was to identify myself and my belief in that way it would be 'man' and 'living' respectively :)
Can I just add, which I thought i'd already implied above, that I personally do not believe the supernatural aspects of any religious text. I was just creating an argument that could be viewed practically from more than one perspective.
Amelia. But if they had no idea of right or wrong, good or bad, how could they even conclude that death was detrimental?
