...hard-drive (like a dvr, tivo, etc) ? i have a dvd-r, but find it VERY limiting, especially in summer, when i might expect to be gone all day (or a weekend), but also do not want to pick-and-choose what might fit on one disc and/or record everything in the lowest quality to fit it all. I had a dvr when had cable, but do not want cable in near future.
I do not have a computer. I use only freinds' and libraries' and other public ones
 
archos and neuros make digital devices but you still need a tuner that you can set to record the same way a cable box or vcr does.
also, you can get a tuner card for your pc that will have software to do this and is only limited by your hard drive space.

tivo doesn't work w/ comcast as per a convo i had last night w/ their tech/sales dept. unless you get their tivo card which you rent for $1.50/mo.
