I've been on and off rivitril for anxiety attacks over last 11 years approx...and always able to go off with few problems.. but this time I'm not able so far to stop them and I'm confused as to whether my shortness of breath is a side effect or a symptom of anxiety.I am off anti-depressants after 15years since April....It's wrecking my head as I don't want to take extra rivitril and start a vicious cycle :

I take Lorazepam for anxiety. 22 million prescriptions were sold last year per AARP
10/09 issue. An outfit for people over 50 or so. I don't know if you can get it across the pond. Good luck Bill

I used to have debilitating panic attacks. Now I just take Valium (diazepam) -- usually before I am in a situation that causes me to panic. My biggest triggers are airplanes and confined spaces where I feel trapped.

I used to take Buspar daily and I liked it because it really cut down on the panic without having side effects...at least none that I noticed.

Shortness of breath, feeling like you are suffocating, rapid heartbeat, feeling like you are having a heart attack are all associated with panic attacks. That said...if your shortness of breath is happening when you don't feel panicked then it's probably something else. I'd check with a doctor.

I take Klonopin when I feel a panic attack coming on. It really helps usually.
