camp to attend his dads funeral? my friends son just graduated bootcamp just a few days ago...his grandfather just died this morning...we are trying to find him a reduced airline ticket as all of them are out of our reach as being able to afford...do airlines not have "bereavement" discounts anymore?...do any of you know an airline or a way of getting a discount for this new young soldier to attend his beloved grandfathers funeral?...thanks in advance for any help with this...
miss type in the title...it was his grandfather that passed away...

Call the local Red Cross. My Mom is a military caseworker at the Red Cross, and they help military people get home when there is a death or birth in the family.

Sympathies to your friend and her son.

call, call, call. many do offer bereavement discounts. However, be warned. These are one way to the funeral. This means you still wind up paying nearly full price on a return ticket. Still, you should save about half. Check out Southwest Airlines. AirTran is cheap, usually doesn't offer a discount. Again, call, call, call.

Check with the Red Cross. Often they will help soldiers come home for a funeral of a close family member if they are overseas. Not sure how that works if he is fresh out of boot camp. Good luck.
