Is there a way to turn off the built in messenger and chat in yahoo mail classic.

It makes my computer freeze!? If i dont give it 5-10 seconds to load and I click a link anywhere on the page my computer freezes. When it does that it takes me at least 5 minutes to get the screen shut down so that I can actually do anything. This is INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING! I use the real yahoo messenger so I dont even need this feature junking up my email experience! Anyone have some help here?
