Is there a way to retrieve already deleted text messages from an AT&T cell phone?

I won't go into much detail but I really need to see some text messages sent (I figure it's probably impossible to retrieve received messages) from one of the lines on my AT&T family plan. Is there anyway to do this? If it helps at all the phone is a Samsung Propel and it is less than a year old. I've read in another answer that "There is spy software you can download onto the cell phone that can send all his text messages onto a website where you can look it up but it's hard to find." Also, I've heard of other phone makes having a disk that comes with the phone that can retrieve the texts. Any information is apreciated.
