Is there a way to gain root access to a Samsung Galaxy S with a broken screen?

The screen on my Galaxy S recently broke. I'd like to get all my files off the phone before replacing it, but in order to access the internal sd you must use the touch screen. Does anyone know of a way to gain root access or somehow retrieve files from the internal sd? Without replacing the screen.. Thanks
