is there a way to flush out a heater coil on a 2000 ford ranger?

my heat slowly went out and someone told me my coil needed to be flushed out. can this work or should i just replace it.
 
Try flushing first. If that does not work consider replacing it.
Check the thermostat too. A bad thermostat will also cause low heat especially if you normally drive short distances. Use a flushing kit from an auto parts store.
