Is there a way in witch someone could self-teach himself classical music composition?

I'm not new to music as i have been playing the saxophone for about 8 years and learning jazz harmony arranging and ear training in an art school for 3 years. I have little to no experience in the classical domain although i must admit I listen to a lot of it.

I had a wonderful experience learning certain subjects by myself. some of them are jazz improvisation, English and even mathematics. In learning by myself I mean by the use of books, internet, etc.

I wonder if there's a way I can self teach myself this subject because so far i have been unsuccessful.
