...wild and gets help from natives? ...i.e. a western soldier that gets severely injured and receives help and shelter from the natives?

The Bridge on the River Kwai by Pierre Boulle. Shears, the American, is taken in by natives of the Malay peninsula who nurse him back to health. Great classic story, too!
