around 5 months ago I was diagnosed with a so called virus... my symptoms were serious at the time which include occasional weakness to the point where I could barely work.. however the symptoms would only last 2hrs.. my main complaint was and still is lightheadedness to this day 5months later..
The weird thing is that I only feel lightheaded when standing, the syptoms are never present while sitting.. My doctor has performed several blood test which came back perfect and has also had me do a doppler or echo and wear a holter monitor for a day ruling out that my hearts fine!!! The lightheadedness is not as serious as before but is constantly there when im standing. Is there such a virus that exist which has been with me for 5 months.. I requested a cat scan/mri however my doctor insist that i dont need the radiation dosages of a ct scan yet..

Please tell me someone has been through this because im becoming depressed and losing weight since my doctor has no more answers for me!!!

I would request a referral to a cardiologist. Did your doctor do a sequence of blood pressure readings where you were laying down for the first, sitting up for the second and standing for the third. Did he/she also check to see if your blood pressures where close to the same on both arms? There are many reasons for you getting dizzy upon standing. Orthostatic Hypotension (I think that is the name) is one of the reasons. The other reason is a problem with your adrenal glands, did this doctor check a fasting cortisol level? You could also be dehydrated. Try increasing your fluid intake and drink some gatorade and see if that help alleviate your dizzyness. If the reason is Orthostatic Hypotension, than you will need to increase your sodium and drinking gatorade will help increase your sodium level.

Keep going back until you get an answer or you are feeling better.

thanks for your feedback Brenda...

I am over the dizziness... it's just lightheadedness that im coping with these days. It wont seem to go away and yes i have had my blood pressure checked in different positions. im not sure what to reqest from my doctor as far as test are concerned. hope this virus dies out soon cause it's really hard to focus at work and be productive!!!

scuba47,

I am glad to hear that you are feeling a little bit better. Maybe in a weeks time you will notice that the lightheartedness feeling also begin to subside.
