If there isn't...where can we start this? This would be a great way for our families to communicate about the areas we live, and schools and medical needs prior to a move. Also finding military families that maybe close to you that want play-pals for their child or another military family for support. If it's out there please let me know. If not how about lets get it started and distro. to the family via family support groups, post papers, and the exceptional family members programs on these installations. I just haven't found one yet and we do have the need!
Thank you for your time,
I know about all the programs that are set up for families like ours. Let me be more specific...I want a chat or blog.

theres something sort of like this, called the Exceptional Children Program, or something like that. Its focused more on the disabled kids themselves rather than their family, but it might be what you're needing.

EFMP.

The last thing in the world that you want is a blog or chat. You want real flesh & blood people who are there...and who share your needs. You can ask through your base/post MWR.

My little brother was a special needs child, retarded due to the effects of erythroblastosis fetalis...and there were no support groups at that time.

Resources vary from one installation to another. The important thing to remember is that you are not alone.

The most overlooked personnel that can help are Chaplains. These men and women have remarkable connections and tremendous informal power. It doesn't matter if you are religious or not, or if the Chaplain isn't from your faith group. I never met a Sky Pilot that I didn't like...they are very approachable and tremendously helpful. If a Chaplain cannot immediately help you, they will go out of their way to find someone who can.

Another excellent source of information are RNs and PTs. Nurses run the Medical side of things...they just let us Docs think we do. LOL

Again, I cannot speak highly enough of the Chaplain Corps. Given the choice between going to a Chaplain and going to a wienie Psychologist like me, I'd take the Chaplain.

Good luck...you are NOT alone.
