Say a disaster like an Electro Magnetic Pulse takes out all the power and communication systems as well as taking out almost anything else with microprocessors like cars, radios, blood sugar monitors, pacemakers, etc.

Is there a reference guide to teach us old skills long since lost? Like how to grow our own food in victory gardens and can it. How to live without running water and toilet paper. How to avoid old diseases like typhoid and cholera that we haven't seen in many decades. What to use for medicines when the drugs run out, etc.

What I'd really love to see is a really big book with these kind of topics covered and many others.
Basically a book for the longer term, beyond the 3 days to 2 weeks until help arrives. How about how to get by for the next year until help arrives.

There are many "survival" publications out there for sale. Or visit your local library. All the information cannot be put in one book, because there is simply too much information. Some of us grew up with a lot of this information because it was just a way of life back then. I'm in my mid 50's and raise a garden, plus hunt and fish. Preserve vegetables, fruits, smoke and preserve meats and fish. I have lived without electricity, indoor plumbing, and just about all the things that we take for granted today. That was quite awhile back, yes, but I still could if I had to. And I taught my children to do so also. Not that we would WANT to, but can if necessary. A lot of this information was acquired because of geographical location. I grew up in central U.S.A. and still live there. It was simply the way of life back then in the rural areas.
