I've owned two Honda Civics, enjoyed them a great deal. First one was a 1996. Drove it for about three years, no problems, sold it at around 110,000 miles. Second one was a 2002, drove it for almost three years. The transmission went out and so did the driver-side airbag. It just got crunched and totaled, so time for a new car.
I'm wondering about taking the money and buying something even less expensive so that I can get out of having a car payment sooner. I'm interested in Kia, I've noticed they are less expensive. I'm told by others that their earlier cars weren't the best but that their quality control has gone way up.
Here's an example of why I ask this. Right now, for about $7,200, I can buy either a 2002 Honda Civic with roughly 100k miles (4-cyl coupe), or I can buy a 2007 Kia Optima with 48k miles (6-cyl 4-dr sedan). Kind of hard to ignore the difference, and makes you wonder if you're just paying for the Honda brand at this point when Kia is nearly comparable...?
Is there a reason why I should not buy a Kia? Anyone had bad experiences with later models (2002 and up)?
