Is there a real game like in the book, "Chain mail- Addicted to you"?

I am reading this book about 4 teenage girls in Japan that begin to make a story. They signed up for what character they wanted to play, and then they posted a fairly long entry from their character's point of view. They kept it going and it became a very fragile, new fiction world that meant a lot to them and seemed real. I think it's a great book!!

I was wondering if there's any websites that actually do that, not counting the one where you just post a sentence following other people's sentences....
