I can't speak for the Social Services dept in Florida, but I do know
that I was talking to my husband, about being my care giver, it could
help our financial picture. And then I received a letter to notify me
that if I was receiving in home help by a spouse or relative, that program has now been dropped, as just one more measure to be
cut by our local governments. And yet, if I want to hire someone to
come in and assist me, that program is still in effect. You just can't
have a relative or spouse, doing the work. That makes no sense, but
that's the way the law has changed out west where I am. I believe
I understood that this is a national change, not local alone. It would
pay to contact your local Social Services office and they will tell you
if this is the case where you live.
