Is there a primer paint that kills wallpaper?

My house is covered in wallpaper. I was going to just paint but now it's starting to peel. I want it gone without all the trouble of actually removing it . Please help.

What a great idea! If there were a product like that it would sell like hot cakes! I went through the whole-house-wallpapered-thing. My condolences! Just so you know, starting to peel wallpaper isn't an indication that it all wants to come off, it's only an indication that that particular spot is coming off. So what you should do is glue the paper right back down and get out those painting supplies

I also learned that the results are better if you use a stain sealing primer on the wallpaper first, such as KILZ, to slow down the absorbtion rate . Otherwise the wallpaper treats paint like a man treats beer, it just sucks it up!

It's just as important to apply a thin layer of paint in one stroke that will DRY QUICKLY. It's a maddening thing about very old wallpaper that if your trying to pull it off by any method it won't budge. but if you paint it with a less than thin coat the paper will start coming off in pieces on your roller. If this happens, adjust the amount of paint you're applying and keep going, being sure not to go over the same spot more than once. It takes a little longer to paint a room that's wallpapered because you have to do several coats, but the later coats shouldn't be quite as sensitive to the wetness of the paint. You must allow the last coat to dry completely before painting the next coat.

Use a flat finish paint as it hides bumps and seams better and if the paper is in bad condition consider doing two tone rag painting or another method like it because it does wonders for camoflaging damaged wall surfaces. Once you get the house spruced up, you'll probably want to remove the paper one room at a time, but not to worry. Painting the paper won't adversely effect its later removal.

Good luck!
