will display a picture of who you called/are talking to like photo caller id does when someone first calls, but for the whole duration of the call? I don't understand why every phone doesn't do this and I find it dumb that it's not an option. I'd also prefer this in a flip phone factor. Forgive my ignorance if this is actually pretty common, I've only used Motorola phones.

why not? it says the name of the person doesn't it? Why would it need to display the name of the person if we're not looking at the screen? To tell us who we're talking to and the time....I see no reason why it couldn't just keep the picture up and even in with the recent/missed call logs.

My SE Z710i always has the screen backlight on (very dimly, but on) while on a call, so you can always see the picture of who you are talking to, as well as the time and length of the call without having to press a button to turn the screen back on.

The solution for this is pretty simple: battery life. Manufacturers try to squeeze every bit of energy out of todays batteries as possible. Makes sense too.

my lg vx8500 does this. the screen is very dimmly lit, but the picture stays up there while im on the phone.

but i agree with what was said above me, i dont look at the screen while im talking on the phone...
