Is there a medical term for this..?

Is there a medical term for when your spine, or other bones / fibers, is abnormally twisted BUT maintains normal position along frontal and sagittal planes? I'm not talking about scoliosis which is a lateral deviation along the frontal plane. An analogy would be the twisting that occurs while wringing out a towel. It's kind of hard to describe because the object hasn't really "moved".

Thanks.

while i am sure there IS something out there that would describe this, i really do not totally know exactly what it is you are truely describing? it IS very hard to fully describe certain things when it comes to location or what things simply look like or compare to either. sooo, is this 'just' the very backside doing this then like within the spinous processes(just very confused as you can tell)? the one suggestion i have that may help here since this just really DOES sound to me anyways like this was something you were probably actually born with? look up "congenital spinal (or spinal column)abnormalities" or something along those lines? that 'may' possibly help? have you ever seen a good neurosurgeon for a consult/eval, or an orthosurgeon? i would think that at least one of those two specialists would more than likely actually know what this is and what created this to even begin with too? i am assuming you have actually had at least a CT, x ray or MRI at one time to even KNOW that this just is?

just exactly how old are you and how long have you known your spinal was this way? is there any other family members that also have at least "some' of what you have?

knowing what types of actual testing/films you have had so far would help, and of course what the interpretting rad mentioned in his report too? if that spinal is actually twisted as you described, certain things like the nerve roots, the cord and flow of CSF within that surrounding dura could have issues that would only be 'seeable" upon like at least an MRI being done?

are you suffering ANY actual symptoms or pain from this? it just 'sounds' like it would have at least "some' types of real consequences/signs/ symptoms to me. please let me know what you find out. good luck, FB

It would probably be considered a "rotational" problem. I had that happen when I tore the ligaments on the front of my spine and the entire lumbar spine "rotated" to the right. It was still straight but they couldn't get a needle into my back for a myelogram until he tried to go in from the side and then the myelogram indicated that the spine had rotated. Still slightly rotated.

So I think that would be the term you're looking for. Since the lumbar spine is normally lordotic(curved inward), you can still have a rotated lordotic spine that is curved inward yet rotated to one side. What I have now.

And now that I think o fit, when I broke my neck, the reports stated that it had lost it's "lordosis" (inward curve) to the point of being kyphotic(curved outward) and was also rotated slightly to the right as well.

What have you done to your spine?
