This is what i got as an answer for my astronomy related questions.I was not aware of this.Coming from a Top Contributor i should consider this,so i ask you people in Astronomy to be kind enough to tell me if this is the general opinion here so that i may stop bothering you with my in-depth questions and take my quest for knowledge elsewhere.

I've answered several of your questions. Yes, there are quite a few top contributors that are arrogant snobs with low self-confidence or self-esteem problems, but I'm not one of them. I suspect that some of us who lived through the PC revolution and who grew up(?) before calculators first became available and all math had to be done by hand on paper or in your hand feel like that the younger generation are getting lazy by depending on the web so much. Yes, I worry about that too, especially when some one who was in the fifth grade told me she doesn't see why she has to understand how to do basic arithmetic because of calculators eight years ago. The thought that she is a high - school junior, senior, or graduate now really bothers me at times.

Please, don't hesitate to ask questions, and don't let arrogant snobs and cyber-bullies intimidate you. Public internet forums and bulletin boards are just like a virtual grade school play-ground sand box, with bullies trying to pick fights and throwing sand in other people's faces. Displays of arrogance and temper tantrums are common, as well as some people going on personal vendetta campaigns in attempts to destroy another person's credibility. The web is a little bit like the wild west was - there are no laws that are legally enforceable yet, but internet law is evolving, slowly.

It would help to know just how complex your question was, but it can be said that there are several people here who are extremely knowledgeable, many with degrees. There are also klutzes like me without degrees but plenty of background in astronomy, cosmology, etc.,.

Perhaps you should consider taking your quest to a local college or university. If you think that it's even remotely possible to give <in depth> answers in this forum, I'm afraid you don't grasp how deep it can get. A classroom would be more appropriate for what you seek. That's all the TC was saying.

It really depends on the question. If it can't be answered in a few paragraphs, maybe it doesn't belong here. There are a reason that people spend 10 years in college studying this stuff - it's not simple, and often can't be reduced to something simple in a few lines. You're welcome to ask questions on here - everyone is - and we'll do our best to answer them (unless we suspect it's your homework) but we don't have all the time in the world to teach you advanced astrophysics.

Ask them why THEY are in here then. There are a couple rubes who post this kind of crap all the time. Ask your questions and give them a thumb down when they tell you that. DONT let them scare you off. They are probably MacDonalds fry cooks.

Depending on your question, and how it was asked, it could be seen by some as questions from your text book that you want answered. Don't fret, though, if you really do want to know the answers to some good astronomy related questions, just break up your questions (at least separate them by subject), and explain a little why you are asking the question, and what you know that led to the question. This will probably get a much better response then numbered questions that each would require a good couple paragraphs to begin to answer.

Also, throw in some hints as to what has you so interested in these things, astronomers love to hear from other people excited about astronomy, and what excites em.

Don't know if this helped or not.
