During the Augustin age of the Roman army the legions where primarily staffed with provincials. If this is so then where were the Italian men? What were the young men of mainland Italy doing at this time?
There was no Italy. If you read the history of Italy it did not become a country until 1933.....I only remember that because I was shocked when I read it, you think of countries except for Africa and USSR as being around forever.
