Is there a good or best all around bike? on and off road coast to coaster?

I want to travel, all I have ridden are road bikes and I would like to get off the road once in a wile.
 
I have been riding a Giant Sedona (hybrid) and have been totally satisfied. I had the rear tire replaced with a GEAX Volcano and filled with greem slime. Now I can jump curbs, ride trails, or just cruise around the streets at a good clip.

Seriously, I am 6'3" 250lbs, and I beat the hell out of this bike and it gives me no problems, ever.

The total cost was about $900 though. But that was 8 years ago, and I plan to keep this bike until I'm too old to ride. So it was worth it to me.
