is there a difference in the carrier shims between a 3.42:1 ten bolt chevy rear

end and a 3.73:1 chevy? ive got a 93 chevy blazer full size and we shreded the 3.42:1 rear end that was in it and we had to rebuild the rear end and use the 3.73:1 rear end ring gear and pinion, but was still able to use the 3.42:1 carrier, now my question is do i have to change the carrier shims because the yoke is very tight and hard to turn any good insight would be great.....thanks jay
