Is the younger generation being affected by video games?

I am witnessing more and more kids being sucked into video games and having no responsibilities at all. I admit I love video games but I rarely get a chance to play because I have a family, work and night college..and of course cooking cleaning..the usual. My son is 12 and he is just starting to come around that video games are not everything. He likes to be outside most of the time now which I am thankful for. But I know a lot of people that their kids will not do ANYTHING because they are to much into video games. Do you think this will change? Or do you think the next generation is going to be a bunch of lazy, self centered bums?
 
i think that parents are the problem. parents need to teach their child to no be lazy and to actually do some work. it's not the video games fault. some kids are natually lazy and some (like yours) like running around. but it depends on the child. me for example i am rather smart IQ around 130 ish and i love video games i love messing around on computers. i hate running i like some outdoor stuff but im more of a mental athlete than a physical one. so i would much rather have a day of math and science than a day of gym. so it's partially the kids but mostly the parents aren't doing a good job
(not that you are doing a bad job i'm not saying that don't worry) but in general parents aren't doing their job so it's the previous generation that's screwing things up
 
im sorry to say that's just how its going to be until they come up with virtual reality, because the new systems make billions over time, and are genuinely fun to play, so this is how it will be.
 
Video games arent the problem. The lack of parenting is the problem.

When you look at your friend's children who wont do anything but play video games, take a long hard look at the parents. The parents are the ones that LET their children get that involved and enable them to be that involved by not forcing them to take responsibility.
