is the whistler pro 78 that much better then the whistler xtr 690?

i don't need all the fancy features im just looking for a reasonably inexpensive radar detector but i set my mind on the xtr 575 but then was talked into the 690 for a few bucks more. now im hearing from reviews that the pro 78 is SO much better. is that all hype?
