Is the war in Afghanistan starting to sound a lot like Vietnam to you?

You have top military commanders insisting on higher troop levels and more aggressive tactics to ensure success, and then you have liberals who are committed to cutting & running like they were in Iraq because they don't think that our military knows what it's talking about! Is this starting to sound a little like Vietnam to you? Politicians (not our military) calling the shots?

How many NATO/ISAF have died in Afghanistan? maybe 3-4,000

50,000 Americans were killed in Vietnam.

It isn't near the stage that Vietnam is at.

They cannot win in Afghanistan, that is a given but what they can do though is stabilize the place, build up the ANA, build up government, give the people schools, hospitals ect.. and make the place safer.

After the NATO/ISAF troops pull out the ANA can try and win against the Taliban.

If we were to leave now, every one of those lifes would be all in vain, the thousands of civillians lifes would be in vain and the Taliban/al Qaeda/ Mujahadeen would have a place to train, sell their drugs to buy guns, brainwash and oppress the people of Afghanistan.

Once again the Democrats sit on their hands while men and woman die. Obama has to choose between appeasing the Liberals and saving lives. So far his has chosen appeasing the Liberals. Typical Liberal radical mind set. Save a terrorist in paradise Bermuda while Americans suffer.

I don't even know why we are there any more. It seems to me that we have just made an enemy get larger and even more unorganized (which can be scary) since we have been there for so long and we really can't win this war. I do think that it's time to make like a banana and split.

Um, not quite.

Military commanders will always ask for more. That doesn't mean more is the answer.

The Soviets had over 100,000 troops in Afghanistan for 10 years, and that wasn't enough. And it bled their treasury dry, much like is happening today.

The history of Afghanistan is that they have NEVER been changed from the outside. The "country" is really a loosely-knit tribal society. The "government" is impotent and corrupt.

Only the Afghani's can change their country, and it seems they refuse to do so, so nothing we do is going to make a difference in the long run.
