Is "The Village" worth a watch?

I'm having a quiet night in tonight & noticed this movie is on BBC2 tonight & it sounRAB pretty good.So without anyone spoiling it is the movie worth a watch?.
 
I thought it was good, and I'm not a big MNS fan.
It's allegorical - a bit of a criticism of fear-mongering government, and that makes it quite an intelligent film imo - compared to Signs and Lady In The Water which could have been written by 5-year olRAB, and 6th Sense which relied so heavily on audience manipulation that it didn't work for me. The only other MNS film I liked was Unbreakable, which is childish but gets away with it because the story is worked around childish things - superheroes and comic books.
 
I saw it in the cinema when it was first released and it was entertaining enough. I guessed the "twist" at the end but the build up was good and there were a few jumpy moments to keep the audience interested.

Not in the same league as "Sixth Sense" & "Unbreakable" but worth watching if just to look out for the clues to work out the ending.
 
If this is the one about the people living in the wood (don't want to say too much and spoil it for the OP), then "Yes" it is worth a watch.
Not much else is on the box.
 
its a watch-once film. Ie. just to follow it's unorthodox plot compared to most movies. Worth a watch, I thought so but overall didn't rate the film that highly.
 
MNS is a one hit wonder director. The Six Sense was great, truly creepy. Everything else he has done has been average to appauling. I can forgive certain plotholes in films, but he has such glaringly bad ones.

Planes don't fly over the village - yeah right, not nay ever? I know the head of the vilage had made some deal with the authorities that aircraft don't fly over ther land, but you mean to say nobody there ever hears a plane?

Not to mention the equally appauling plothole in Signs - the whole thing hung on the fact water kills the aliens. Hmmm what about the moisture in the atmosphere? We're exposed to it all the time
 
M. Night Shyamalan's films have became increasingly self-indulgent.
The Village is nicely filmed and acted but it has a big hole at its centre, the plot.
The twist is just so obvious that when it happens, you are past caring.
However, The Village is a masterpiece compared to his next movie , Lady In The Water.
That truly is a stinker.
 
I don't mind the planes thing in The Village - the story's allegorical not literal, so it still works for me.
Signs was a dreadful film though.

Signs 2/10
The Village 7/10

There's a pattern - his next film should be 6/10, but the one after that.... :eek:

BTW pierre_gustave, what's the big hole in the centre of The Village?
 
I think it's all to do with personal opinion- the only film of MNS that I have see was The Village and that was last night on BBC2, I really liked it and thought that it was a very clever film. Totally agree with those who have said not to take the film literally and also, I have taken a new view on films- since watching Lynch films- I now believe everything the director wants me to till he/she changes it with a twist etc... it makes the film much more enjoyable because there is no way of me thinking that suddenly something is going to change.
I thought the twist in the film was brill and clever and because of the approach to films, I now take, I was not expecting it.
I have heard good things about his other films- each and every one from people I know- that although on screen some (Lady in the Water) it may not be perfect- he is a very clever writer.
Would recommend The Village and also would watch it again!
 
it's rubbish. Was lucius the first person ever in the village to get sick? What did they do for medicine before sending Ivy through the wooRAB?
Also I laughed when she offed adrian brody's character.
