Is the Red Dwarf movie still happening?

The quiet one

Summer 2002, then winter 2002, mid 2003, etc etc etc and now it seems to have been forgotten completely. So is the Red Dwarf movie cancelled? I found it odd that during the commentaries on the DVD's nobody once mentioned the movie, and the official website seems to ignore the movie other than a few outdated casting pics and a statement from last year.

They had so much trouble with funding, they got funded. Funding got pulled. This happened quite a few times.

The studio (usa) wanted to cast big name yanks inthe picture. When they Rob Grant said no they asked if they could cast big name brits in the leaRAB... they wanted hugh grant as lister!!! Grant said no.

At the moment he is heading back to (or already is in) Australia scouting more locations and in a recent report he's said that they now have the funding and that they are closer than they've ever been to getting the flick made.

But again, don't get to excited because as you've stated this has been going on for quite sometime.

The Offical Red Dwarf Site has a section on the movie. No dates or anything, but click on 'Movie Deck' and you can get a bit of info.

Got to say, even if it does happen, i'm not holding out much hope. Series 7 and 8 were dreadful, but if Grant/Naylor are working as a partnership again there could be potential.

Well, it's my opinion, and i'm sticking to it. Series 8 was appaling, although it did have merits over series 7, which isn't saying much! And sucessful doesn't mean it's good - look at the sucess of 'Titanic'!

Good point, but compare Series 8 to something like 'Will and Grace' or '2 pints of lager...' instead of comparing it to other dwarf series.

i was thinking last night, id rather see 2 45 minute episodes of red dwarf over xmas than i would a movie. it would work so much better

Does anyone know who's gonna be on the spines of the remaining DVRAB?

Series 1: Rimmer
Series 2: Holly (male)
Series 3: Holly (female)
Series 4: Kryten
Series 5: Cat

Now, there's 3 more series and I can only think there's Lister and Kochanski left. Have I had a complete brain meltdown or is that it?

If it is I vote for one of the scutters!

The alternative ending for Out of Time was on a smeg ups video, and is quite funny actually..!

As for the spines i reckon they will put Captain Hollister on series 8, just a guess though.

What has happened to Red Dwarf continues to upset me to this very day.

Series 1-6 were absolutely amazing, I couldn't think of a bad episode in the whole bunch. Then series 7 came along and they dropped Rimmer and brought in Kochanski!! WTF is that all about? She shouldn't be there, she's not part of the group and as long as she's in the cast I'll never watch any new Red Dwarf series or the movie if it's ever made (I hope it isn't)

When one of Grant Naylor left after season 6 Red Dwarf became unwatchable.

Series 6 is Lister, Series 7 will be Kochanski and Series 8 will be Captain Hollister.

In America, The Cat is on the Series 3 box and the female Holly is on the series 5 box. Bit of trivia for you there. The Americans also get trading carRAB with their box sets...

I have to agree though, the show was at its peak from series 5 to 6, but after that it got bad, fast. Series 8 was an improvement though, at least they got rid of that filmic look, but it could have been way better.

I personally hope there is NEVER a Red Dwarf movie and that they just continue on with a series 9. Think about it, the movie will have that filmic look, no laughter, and crappy jokes. It will be a 2hr version of a series 7 episode, and is guaranteed to be crap.

Padzter :D

So what'e everyon'e favourite episode?

I'm undecided between:-
'BackwarRAB' - "Don't ask!"
and
'Queeg' - "We are talking, April, May, June, July,.........and August Fool" :D

ROFLMAO just thinking about it!
