Is the ps3 worth it?

Okay and why? Is it just a hate for Sony in general? This isn't a format strictly developed and backed by Sony. There are many other companies aboard this format as well.
 
Again im not buying it, she is. The tough choice is this:

I dont have a ps3, it plays games and HD movies

I have a wii and a 360, both play games, and 1 can play HD movies if i get the add on.

The question was, is the ps3 worth it. If its a bloated hog with bugs and a bad controller, ill stick with my current consoles and just get an HD dvd add on and call it a day

If its worth a shit, and resistance is good enough to tide me over for a bit, ill get it and jave fun.
 
Simply asking that question between the two seems movie playback is an important aspect. Why don't you browse the movies and which ones have the ones you like. Oh and no I do not regret buying the ps3. I love the thing.
 
It's called supply son.

Xbox 360's sold over 2 million during the Holidays. (more than PS3, and Wii) And you can still find them on the shelves. The PS3 is in short supply (much like the 360 was when it launched LAST YEAR), yet...you can find them. It took around 5-7 months before you coud walk into a store and find 360's just sitting on shelves when it launched.
 
I just got a ps3 recently and now I have them all. I own Fall of man as well and I dont play it to much compared to Gears of War. If you can get the ps3 for from your girlfriend you should and just hang on to it and wait a year for some cool games to come out. I believe the new Metal Gear comes out in 2007, correct me if I am wrong.
 
from what i've read it's great as a storage medium (due to it's huge capacity) but not as good as HD-DVD for picture quality, and that it has slow loading times.
 
The picture quality issue isn't because of the media itself, but the companies utilizing MPEG2 to transfer the movies. This issue is slowly being fixed because more and more companies are using AVC or VC-1, Disney for example is going to use VC-1 from here forth. As far as loading times, I think the problem is centralized to one player out there(Samsung BD P1000) because the Panasonic and the Sony players all load pretty fast. If anything, the Toshiba HD A1 I owned for a couple days loaded slow.
 
You will def like Resistance and it will hold you over. Another great thing to point out is PS3 is capable of 1080i an 1080p format so if this interests you, pick up a ps3
 
That sounds about where i am right now. I thought about hd-dvd, and all the good articles ive read about it.

But the ps3 has "hd" movie capabilities with the blu ray. I always feel like Im missing out on something if i dont have a console. Last gen I had all but the gamecube, simply because it really didnt appeal to me.

This gen I've had the 360 since day one ( and no, it hasnt taken a crap on me ), a wii since launch day ( lots of fun, needs more games imho )

I have a sammy 56 dlp, along with a polk audio surround sound system ( monitor 60s, denon rec, 7.1 total ) so i know, at some point, some time, the ps3 would be fun to play. Plus, i loved the ps1 and 2.

But, the drawback for me is no rumble. Does this seriously hamper the realism of gaming?

And, how is GT HD? The lancer video posted on digg looks great, and Ive heard fall of man is kick ass online, over 40 people? Sounds much better than 16.

And motorstorm/killzone. I played the motorstorm demo, and it seemed slow, but will the retail fair better? And I hope if i do decide for the ps3, killzone is all it is supposed to be. Who doesnt want to play that game if the target renders are close if not accurate.

Well, I have by the end of the weekend to give my answer. I wanted the HD-DVD before i knew i had an option, now the ps3 seems like a viable thing to snag just due to the fact that I have the other 2 consoles out, why not round out the field and cover all my bets?

The force feedback thing is killing me though
 
Something new i read is that the ps3 will play:

Divx and h264 burned discs.

Is this true, this could be a deal maker for me as I use x264 and divx quite a bit, and i -HATE- converting.
 
I honestly think blu-ray will win

1) sony owns a majority of movie production
2) ive already seen bluray integrated with some of the newer laptops with a bluray burner (although I dont know many people who will forke up $3500 for a laptop)
3) when samsung released a limited $1k bluray player, it got sold out quickly. I haven't seen any $500 hd-dvd players get sold out as of yet.
